About me

Photo of Farouk Almsouty

Hey, I'm Farouk!

I'm a software tester. I like finding the small things that others miss. I write and run test cases, report defects, and work with developers until a release is ready.

I test both manually and with automation. I go through applications myself to see how they behave, and I write automated tests for APIs and user interfaces. I enjoy learning new tools along the way.

Outside of work I build my own projects. One of them is BriefEasy, an app that helps people understand German official mail. I'm also curious about AI and about design, and how an app feels to use.

What I do

Manual testing

Writing test cases from the requirements, running functional, regression and integration tests, and reporting defects clearly so they can be fixed quickly.

Test automation

Building automated UI tests with Robot Framework and Selenium, so the same checks can run again and again without doing them by hand.

API testing

Testing REST services: sending requests with different data, checking the responses and status codes, and validating the JSON that comes back.

Test management

Keeping test cases, runs and defects organised in Jira, documenting results, and working with the team in an agile way.

Work experience

Since 2018

Software Test Consultant

QESTIT GmbH · Görlitz, Germany
now

I work as a consultant on client projects, testing software before it reaches the people who use it. That means reading the requirements, working out what could go wrong, writing the test cases and running them, then reporting what I find and following each issue through until it is resolved.

Part of the work is done by hand and part of it is automated, depending on what the project needs. Every client has a different system and a different way of working, so a good share of the job is getting to know the product, understanding what matters most, and staying close to the developers and the rest of the team through the whole cycle.

Since 2025

BriefEasy

My own app, on the App Store and Google Play
own product

Keeping an app running is regular work of its own. I release updates, fix the bugs people report, read the reviews and answer them, keep the store listing current and watch how the app is doing. Being on the other side of a release has changed the way I think about testing.

2010 to 2015

Sales Manager

Golden Motor · Abu Dhabi, UAE

I looked after client relationships and the sales side of the business. Day to day that meant understanding what customers actually needed, following up on opportunities and agreeing terms that worked for both sides. I worked closely with the internal teams so that what we promised could really be delivered.

2007 to 2010

Graphic Designer

TOUCH Studio

I designed layouts and graphics for printed material such as brochures, flyers and catalogues, and prepared the final files for production. The work went from a first idea through several rounds of feedback to something ready for print, which meant paying close attention to detail and to what the client was really asking for.

BriefEasy helps people who live in Germany understand official letters. You take a photo of the letter and the app explains what it says in your own language, shows the deadline, and lists what you need to do.

It can also write a formal reply in German that you can copy and send. I did everything myself: the idea, the design, the development, the testing and the release.

  • Reads the letter for youSummary in simple words, plus the deadline and the next steps
  • 11 languagesIncluding Arabic and Farsi with right-to-left layout
